Notes:
The Scene
The meeting occurred in the Calcasieu Parish Government Building at 1015 Pithon Street. Specifically, it was held on the first floor in the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury meeting room. Board President Kirk Smith reviewed policies and rules of procedure and stated that the Calcasieu Parish government channel records meetings, which are available to view on Wednesdays and Thursdays following the meeting. The Parish also live streams the meetings on Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Facebook page.
Goals
This Board is appointed by and provides recommendations to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury.
Policies
The council approved the minutes from the May meeting.
Variances
134 Huval Street in Ward Eight – This is a request for a variance to allow a non-conforming lot and to decrease the front yard setback requirement. The applicant is Mary Jeffers, and the property is in District 10. Mr. Stelly is the police juror for that region.
Hurricane Laura destroyed Ms. Jeffers’ home, and FEMA provided a manufactured home. She would like to purchase the home. The Board granted the request.
Exceptions
3705 Evelyn Street in Ward Six – This is an exception request to allow a borrow pit. The applicant is Christy Grevemberg, and the property is in District 11. Mr. Marcantel is the police juror for that area. Ms. Grevemberg withdrew her application, and the matter passed without further comment.
2691 West Highway 90 in Ward Four – This exception would allow an expansion and a ten-year extension of an existing borrow pit. The applicant is Laran Properties, LLC, and the property is in District 13. Mr. Andrepont is the police juror for that area. The motion passed without discussion.
Rezoning
6000 Block of Ward Line Road in Ward Three – This is a rezoning application to revert certain tracts of land to their original zoning (A-1 Agricultural) by Open A-1 Ranch. This property is in District 9, and Mr. Bartie is the police juror.
The applicant wants to revert 167 acres along the west side of Ward Line Road to agricultural zoning—the board approved the application without further discussion or public comment.
